Stoneville, Mississippi, is home to what has been referred to as the "Silicon Valley of Agriculture," a research facility boasting of state-of-the-art laboratories, incubators, and problem solving research to private companies and the public sector throughout the world. This location houses the United State Department of Agriculture's 15 state regional headquarters, Mississippi State University's largest branch campus plus other state and federal research entities including the Forest Service. Over 800 people work at the advanced research center, including more than 200 PhDs. 

U.S. ARMY ENGINEER R&D CENTER

 The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg (South Delta) is one of the premier engineering and scientific research organizations in the world. As the research organization of the U.S.A.C.E., ERDC conducts R&D in support of the solider, military installations, and civil works projects (water resources, environmental missions, etc.) as well as for other federal agencies, state and municipal authorities, and with U.S. industry through innovative work agreements. ERDC research is developing innovative solutions for a safer, better world. ERDC labs collaborate to address R&D in five major areas: Military Engineering, Geospacial Research and Engineering; Environmental Quality/Installations; Civil Works/Water Resources; and Engineered Resilient Systems. ERDC's staff of approximately 2,100 federal employees and contractors manage an annual research program exceeding $1 billion.

The state's flagship university - the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) - lies just 10 miles directly to the east of the Delta Strong region. In addition to its comprehensive subject areas, it is home to the Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence, which works with manufacturer across the state. 
Our hour directly east of the Delta Strong region is the State's land grant institution, Mississippi State University. World renowned for their engineering and agriculture programs, MSU's outreach to manufacturers and businesses cuts across many disciplines, ranging from automotive assembly, metal fabrication, food processing, timber and furniture products, among others.
